Why and what we use Google Maps Key for?

Google maps is one the of the most popular mapping and geo location services out there in the industry, but the only problem in regards to setup like immich is that its a cloud service and we can’t self host it. So there is a common question of why and where we use Google Maps.

The Why?

Google maps is the most efficient and widely supported mapping tool and geo location tool out there, thus we rely on Google maps for more accuracy and performance.

The Where?

1. We use Google maps key GOOGLE_MAPS_API_KEY for rending the maps in the heatmap section of power tools. The reason being the efficiency of plotting the heatmap.

2. Planning to bring Google Maps for Tagging Missing Location feature in the upcoming releases.

What happens to my data?

We strictly use these services only to render efficient and better optimised mapping and geolocation, WE DO NOT SEND ANY PERSONAL DATA to Google while using this.
